Art and Resistance through Education
Roksaneh Salartash (she/her) is a student at New York University studying Creative Media and Social Impact with a minor in Producing. She is particularly interested in exploring how artists in the Middle East push the boundaries of creative freedom to address social issues in their work. Roksaneh is inspired by the creativity of her Iranian heritage — from the poetry of Rumi to the films of Abbas Kiarostami and the hit songs of pop-star Googoosh.
Roksaneh is proud to be part of ARTE because of its commitment to empowering young people to create change in their communities through the visual arts.
One of Roksaneh’s favorite art pieces is The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, a painting she was able to see in person during her time studying abroad in Florence, Italy.
