2021 Visions of Justice Nominee Criteria

  • An individual residing in New York City or the tri-state area.

  • A woman of color.

  • An emerging visual artist who made a significant contribution to society by using their artistic practice to bring awareness to human rights issues and/or inspire social justice action in their local communities or across the globe. Preference will be given to artists who work as muralists and visual public artists and have demonstrated a strong commitment to youth development.

  • The panel will consider collectives of artists, so long as all of the criteria outlined above are fully honored.

  • We strongly encourage the nominations of formerly incarcerated artists and individuals who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system.

  • Self-nominations will be considered.

The recipient will publicly receive the award at our virtual Visions of Justice fundraiser on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Each year, ARTE holds a community fundraiser to raise much needed funds to support our programming across New York City.

Nominations are open and will remain open until November 15th.
